Greater Manchester has pockets of farmers and independent food and drink producers across its 496 square miles and again, variety is its key.
From organic beers to fresh herbs, artisan breads and award winning meats there is a breadth of quality not seen in many places. It is also home to world famous specialities such as Uncle Joe's Mintballs .
People in Manchester love to eat out and the area can boast some of the best restaurants in the North West. From fine dining by the river, to relaxed imaginative menus in the suburbs, to traditional pub grub, menus to suit all palettes are here.
Over the past few years, Manchester has embraced the traditional market. The newly developed Arndale Centre in the city centre has a traditional food market with meat, fish and veg from across the region catering for city centre dwellers. Bolton and Bury boast traditional indoor and outdoor markets which attract coach loads of visitors for their quality and value approaches, and Aston under Lyne boasts a brand new market hall after the original was destroyed by fire.
Throw in farmers markets and speciality city centre markets and there is no doubting that Greater Manchester is home to serious food lovers.
